Although Hawaii is home to the endless summer, there are places and times where the temperature can drop substantially. Weather can change dramatically from hot and humid to cool and wet conditions. We recommend wearing comfortable footwear, a hat and sunglasses, and shorts or long pants. Comfortable and light clothing is recommended. Jackets will be provided in the event of cooler temperatures or inclement weather. Long pants are recommended for after sunset temperatures. We also provide rain jackets, parkas, and hot towel service.

Savor lunch alongside locally grown and processed tastings at a private tea farm and winery. Enjoy an oven-roasted turkey breast sandwich on Punaluʻu Hawaiian Sweet Rolls with Waipoli butter lettuce, island-style kettle chips and a fresh baked locally sourced macadamia nut tart. Seasonal selections may vary, and vegetarian and vegan options are available.

At the Historic Kilauea Lodge you will experience an elevated three-course dinner prepared with locally sourced ingredients. There will be the options on a pre-fixed menu that includes soup or salad, an entree and a dessert. You will be able to choose from four seasonal menu entrees that include chicken, fish, pork and vegetable options. Your guide will give you menu choices on the tour and dinner will be called into Kilauea Lodge in advance. Seasonal selections may vary, and vegetarian and vegan options are available.

All experiences include tasty meals with local ingredients made by local chefs. We accommodate special diets or preferences by request.

The tour operator prefers small-group experiences, generally booking no more than 12 guests per vehicle. The Mercedes fleet consists of 15 passenger vehicles. 

This tour allows people to explore the island at a “moderate” level of activity. You will be given the opportunity to exit the vehicle to enjoy the lush and unique landscapes of Greenwell Coffee Farm, Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, and Kilauea Lodge. All walks are optional and it is up to you how far you walk at these destinations. The Thurston Lava Tube is the most strenuous part of the tour with roughly 15 steps down, a twenty-minute or 1/3 mile hike through the tube, and roughly 20 steps up.

Our vans are equipped to handle easy storage of a collapsible wheelchair or other medical equipment. We do not have a wheelchair lift, however. We have also installed an extra hydraulic side step for extra easy on and off for all riders.

Although some cell phone carriers have spotty coverage on the Big Island, we’ll be within cell phone range for most of the tours. We have a charger on board in case your battery runs low, but some guests bring their own mobile battery charger. Then again, it might actually be nice to set down your phone for a while, too. We also rely on “The Coconut Wireless” or shouting across canyons to communicate.
